How to Teach English Online If You Don't Have Internet at Home

A year after my friend quit his job, he hit a rough patch. Financially, he struggled. To survive, he had to sell his laptop and a few other things.

How did he manage to teach English online without the necessary tools (i.e., Internet and laptop)? By renting a unit at an Internet cafe.

Everyday, he went to his "workplace" at the same time following his schedule. He was with other people at the cafe, but he didn't mind. For many months, this was his set-up. When he had his laptop and Internet connection back, he revealed his experience to his students, much to their surprise.

If you don't have Internet connection at home, don't fret. You still can teach English online without spending a fortune on rental just by following these tips.

1. Choose the Internet cafe very well. Factors to consider include the following. It has to be quiet. Steer clear of cafes that allow gamers. They're noisy. Second, it has to be well-ventilated. Third, the rental rate should be affordable. Next, make sure that the Internet connection is fast enough. Last, check the headset if it's functioning.

2. Prepare all your lessons on paper. This saves you time at the Internet cafe, and thus will save you money.

3. Get to the cafe a few minutes to prepare your lessons (i.e., typing, selecting files and pictures to upload).

4. Multi-task. While teaching, learn how to perform other tasks without compromising the quality of your teaching. For instance, you can download some files for tomorrow's lessons while waiting for the student to finish an activity.
